Back in October 2013 we posted about LOVE LOCKS and linked to an article in Chester Chronicle. A video captured someone removing many of the locks under the cover of darkness and divided opinion amongst Cestrians.
Recent months have seen a big increase in the number of LOVE LOCKS on the bridge so we thought it was time to ask the question - what do you think about LOVE LOCKS on Queen's Park Suspension Bridge ? We think Cheshire West & Chester Council need to decide it's policy now - so have YOUR say and vote. Update: July 2014 - approx. 500 locks. Update: September 2014 - virtually all locks have now been removed by the Council.

The Handbridge Inn at Handbridge was taken over for the evening on the 10th March when the New Rotary Club held its Inaugural Night there. 40 people attended the Event which was a lively affair. History was being made for the Rotary District on that night too as the new Club is the First Satellite Club in their District 1180 and with ten brand new Rotarians being inducted. The Club currently known as Satellite Club of Hawarden (who are their Sponsors) has been formed in record time first meeting taking place at The Handbridge on 15th January and in just over seven weeks they are all now Rotarians ready and eager to start helping the local Community with projects so if you know of any get in touch to see if they can help.
For more please see the Rotary blog page by clicking here. Streetscene have acted on our request for road sweeping the parking bays along Overleigh Road. These areas are difficult to clean due to 24/7 parking, so we are particularly pleased to see a concerted effort by the Council's Streetscene team to organise a much needed clean.
It's hoped that other stretches of local roads will get the same attention, for example along Eaton Road. Wednesday 29 January 2014 and video captures the car as it carriers over the wrong side of Old Wrexham Road, Handbridge, crashing into a stone wall, reversing off the pavement before continuing to drive along the wrong side of the road. Eight minutes later and it's on the wrong side of the road again ! At the top of the dead end road are Overleigh St. Mary's Primary, Overleigh Community Nursery and Catholic High School. Only minutes later and dozens of school children would have been walking home along this pavement. Link to local press coverage: Chester First/Chester Standard Chester Chronicle Chester Chronicle 2 Despite the World War 2 Bunker Complex being of Regional importance neither English Heritage nor CW&C have agreed to seek Listed status which would offer some hope of the Bunker Complex being saved. Under this scheme the entire complex will be filled in with only the access points being retained with some interpretation panels describing the bunkers.
Nick Howard, CW&C Planning Officer said 'The Council undertook an extensive consultation exercise in respect of the bunkers and although it was agreed that it would be a good visitor attraction the scheme would be unviable due to public liability and the cost of renovating the complex. Officers have explored the possibility of listing the complex however it is unlikely to be successful as English Heritage consider the complex is of regional importance but not of national importance. Therefore the proposal is to infill the complex in a material that could be removed at a later date. Therefore the complex would not be lost forever.' Regarding the appearance of the riverside residential blocks, he added 'the scale, design and materials are an important element. I have placed a condition requiring materials to be submitted before commencement.' |
