Back in October 2013 we posted about LOVE LOCKS and linked to an article in Chester Chronicle. A video captured someone removing many of the locks under the cover of darkness and divided opinion amongst Cestrians.
Recent months have seen a big increase in the number of LOVE LOCKS on the bridge so we thought it was time to ask the question - what do you think about LOVE LOCKS on Queen's Park Suspension Bridge ? We think Cheshire West & Chester Council need to decide it's policy now - so have YOUR say and vote. Update: July 2014 - approx. 500 locks. Update: September 2014 - virtually all locks have now been removed by the Council.

Myself and my fiancée have our own love lock on the bridge so it needs to stay, its an iconic place and it will gain a bit of tourism if it were advertised in tourist brochures

They are nothing more than metal graffiti. The council would remove graffiti, why not this eyesore?

Love the river and want to see it. The locks are an irrelevance and need removing.

It is the bridge which is iconic, otherwise people wouldn't put them there and these locks are a detriment to it.

I understand their appeal and charm but, as they gather in numbers, the river view will be obstructed. Children and other little people would not be able to see anything but metal locks! Also, eventually, the weight will damage the chain links resulting in costly removal and bridge repair. It's a shame, but they should be stopped.

"as they gather in numbers, the river view will be obstructed" - the river will not be obstructed

Martin, I couldn't understand your first comment. I couldn't understand your second comment either. As to your third comment - what makes you think I'm not a Structural Engineer?

In Paris, the weight of the locks brought down the railings. They are a lovely idea, but for the sake of the bridge structure, they shouldn't be allowed. I would say let's erect a special frame down by the river near the bandstand, it wouldn't have to be expensive, and have that as the place to attach the padlocks...
